Sumitomo Electric Hardmetall Ltd is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of metal cutting tools. Its product range includes standard and special machining tools with hard metal, cermet, CBN and PKD cutting edges for the most demanding machining, turning, milling and drilling tasks. The company’s history stretches back over 400 years.
As the world's leading turning tool and cutting material manufacturer, Sumitomo has considerable expertise in turning. Sumitomo can therefore offer a wide range of coated and uncoated hard metal and cermet grades, which guarantee high cutting speed and precision combined with high durability.
To create innovative drilling processes, Sumitomo offers excellent drilling tools and solutions for a wide variety of machining conditions. Sumitomo’s regrinding and retreading services, as well as replacement drill bits, give the customer more productivity and profitability.
The choice of cutting materials and milling tools is an important factor in achieving optimum profitability and efficiency. Sumitomo offers a wide selection of milling cutters and materials to cover a wide range of applications including face milling, shoulder milling and special milling processes.
Since the 1970s Sumitomo's CBN grades (cubic boron nitride) have gone by the name of SUMIBORON. Sumitomo has developed the world's first sintered CBN tools for machining of hardened steel parts. These tools have revolutionized the fields of use.
Their properties provide high abrasion resistance and tensile strength, ensure high quality finishes and performance.
Applications include hardened steel, cast iron and exotic metals, which previously could only be machined by grinding.
Since 1970s, Sumitomo's PCD (Polycrystalline Diamond) grades named SUMIDIA has pioneered the development of sintered diamond tools successfully used in the tool making industries. These tool materials can be epoch-making in a sense of broadening the cutting application range.
Characteristics are excellent wear and fracture resistance, high quality finished surfaces as well as high performance.
SumiCrystal is a synthetic monocrystalline diamond manufactured by Sumitomo Electric under strict quality control. Sumitomo Electric has been a pioneer in the area of mass-produced monocrystalline diamonds.
Diamond is the hardest known material, which provides the best heat resistance, low plastic deformation and good electrical insulation, and are therefore excellent in high precision applications.
Compared to natural diamonds, SumiCrystal is very homogeneous and therefore suitable for industrial applications.
